'Detroit's Beautiful, Horrible Decline' - Time Magazine Photo Essay

I was struck by the Gothic beauty of these images, the aura of loneliness and potential long since buried that seems to radiate from the decaying, abandoned landscape. In particular image #5, the United Artists Theatre, is redolent of bygone opulence and decadence - it looks like a place abandoned in the middle of something, as if some great catastrophe event swallowed all the inhabitants rather than the more mundane and ultimately sadder reality. I have a feeling some of this imagery's going to work its way into my writing...
