I'm midway through reading this for, I am thoroughly ashamed to say, the first time (full text here) and had to stop and blog. It's marvellous stuff.
The most striking and chilling of Dystopias, I think, are the ones that go under the guise of Utopias. Huxley, like Orwell, understood this all too well. There's something missing in today's Sci-Fi that can be found in works such as these. We, who in the Postmodern era have become so blasé in our discrediting and dismissal of all and sundry, our aloof alignment to non-alignment, do not and cannot really appreciate the terrible power of all-consuming, unbending ideology.
